Infrared radiators and heaters represent the future of heating in the home. They are three times as efficient as conventional convector heating systems and by switching to them you can shave 70% off your heating bill. For example, if your room would normally require a normal radiator which is 1500 watts (5100 BTU), an infrared panel radiator of only 500 watts would deliver the same amount of heat, obviously at a third of the running costs (even less if you install one of our thermostats).
Infrared radiators require no special attachments or plumbing, they simply plug in to any plug socket and you are ready to go. In addition to this, unlike conventional radiators which often need to be placed under windows you can position an infrared radiator just about anywhere you like in your room and it will provide the same heating - the only exception to this rule is you should not position your radiator facing a window as much of the heat will be directed outside. When we say you can mount your infrared radiators anywhere we really mean anywhere; infrared heaters are just as effective when positioned on your wall, ceiling (extra brackets required, see the accessories section) or even chair. We offer two wooden seats – the Sitting Wave range – with infrared heaters build in them which provide both excellent heating and functionality).
Another key difference between conventional heaters and infrared heaters is the way in which they heat. Conventional heaters work by heating the air by conduction and convection, the heated air then circulates the room warming it. Infrared heat penetrates objects such as walls, furniture and of course people. These objects then themselves radiate heat which warms the room. In essence infrared heaters transform objects in your room in to sources of warmth. This means that not only will you feel the heat from an infrared radiator much quicker than you would a conventional heater (remember it is heating you directly straight away), the room will stay warm long after the infrared heater has been switched off due to 'stored' heat in the walls and furniture.
